We have been a couple since November 2, 2006, Day of the Dead, a holiday that has been dear to our hearts ever since. To celebrate our 8-year anniversary we decided to go Guanajuato, Mexico. We were excited to visit San Miguel de Allende for their annual Day of the Dead celebration, “Las Calacas”. San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful colonial town full of color. It is often referred to as the heart of Mexico because of its geographical location. During sunset on November 2, 2014, while on a terrace that overlooked the town, I presented Jessie with a linocut print. It was an illustration of us as calacas created my friend Daniel Gonzalez, an amazing artist and printmaker. As Jessie opened the gift, I got down on one knee, presented her with a ring and asked her for forever, “para siempre”.
Instantly after our engagement in Guanajuato we began to plan our wedding. We knew that we wanted to get married in the Coachella Valley. Jessie was born in Palm Springs and I was raised in Cathedral City. Though we’ve been in Los Angles now for over 8 years, the desert is the place where we both met and both still consider home. After a couple of months looking at some traditional Palm Springs wedding venues and not finding anything that felt right, we finally realized that we needed to switch our thought process. We recognized that we were drawing too much inspiration from previous Palm Springs weddings featured in blogs, pintrest, etc. Plans were not starting to feel like us.
We took a step back and genuinely began to ask ourselves what we truly wanted. We both consider ourselves to be somewhat creative individuals. Jessie is a photographer, while I am a graphic designer and media artist. We are both into spending time with family and friends. Some of the things we enjoy are hosting, traveling, having a few drinks, late night street food, cultural learning, music, art and design. We wanted to incorporate all of those things and produce a wedding that felt like us, while still keeping some traditional elements. We wanted to create and experience that felt like a day out with us. Something that feels familiar, but a little bit fancier.
The Palms Springs Art Museum was perfect for our ceremony. It is mid-century modern architecture nestled in the iconic San Jacinto Mountains with beautiful exhibition spaces and sculpture gardens. It provided us with the formal vive that we wanted for our ceremony and gave us the opportunity to be married surrounded by beautiful works of art. It was also the place were I got one of my biggest creative push. After the museum purchased one of my paintings for their permanent collection. A painting that I had created during a scholarship exhibition. We both immediately feel in love with the idea, but were quoted way out of our budget. Since we were working with a limited budget, we decided to split the ceremony and the reception spaces to save on costs.
I ended up finding Snapshot Palm Springs online. It is a photography studio that is perfectly located caddy corner from my first home in America after migrating from Mexico, three blocks away from Jessie’s childhood home and 1 block away from the elementary school we both attended. Snapshot was our blank canvas and it offered the outdoor dinner space we were looking for. We were allowed to bring in what we wanted and celebrate past the strict Palm Springs noise ordinance because of its location. Combined, both of these locations were perfect together. We were able to keep the formal vibe we wanted for our ceremony and have the more laid back familiar experience our friends and family are accustomed to from us at our reception.
For our wedding colors we were inspired by our Mexican, Peruvian and American combined cultures. We started with white for a base. Jessie is Peruvian from her mother’s side so gold was a must. We both knew that we wanted a midnight blue to compliment the white and help the gold accents stand out. We also wanted a color that would pop. The fuchsia color came from the beautiful bougainvillea filled trees that we saw while in Guanajuato and the bougainvillea that is prominent in the Coachella Valley.
Our wedding happened right after daylight savings so we had to plan accordingly. We were trying to beat the sun for outdoor photos and have a reception that started late enough to allow for a late-night party while not exhausting everyone. We also planned on having food throughout the night, which included late night tacos. Our tables were lined in rows outside to take advantage of the beautiful star filled desert sky. As you walked out to the outdoor space the tables in white linens were filled with candles, flowers, and traditional hand cut paper picado hung above. Accompanying the paper were string lights giving the paper pieces a soft iridescent glow.
A main component or theme of our wedding was family, especially our grandparents. We both no longer have our grandparents; they were an incredible influence to our lives individually and as a couple. We would have loved to share the moment with them. In the spirit and tradition of Dia de los Muertos we set up an altar in remembrance of them and others in our families who are no longer with us, to guide all of their souls to share on the occasion. During dinner a Mariachi came in to serenade us and played my grandmothers favorite song to pay homage to our gone but not forgotten family members.
The wedding turned out to be a crazy yearlong project. But looking back it was all worth it. It was the happiest day of both our lives and we got to do it our way, with all of the amazing support from our loving families and friends.

]]>This wedding was beautiful on so many levels and full of amazing personal touches. Janae's gorgeous pink dress was handmade by her brother in law Octavius. Nick and the groomsmen were also outfitted by Octavius and looked like they were on their way to a fashion shoot. The personal touches didn't stop there, the florals, decor and coordinating all came from Janae's cousin Raihni. The couple was married by Janae's Uncle making their ceremony even more special.
Janae and Nick's first dance was straight out of a movie. After having my mind blown I learned the dance was choreographed by her brother who just so happens to be a world renowned choreographer, who you guessed it, choreographs for movies and music videos. I have seen a lot of incredible first dances, but this was on a whole different level. This wedding was a total family affair and with a family this talented who could blame them.
Enjoy.

As much as I love seeing all the wonderful details, it's the real moments that make a wedding special. This wedding was full of them. A secluded first look that took John Paul's breath away. Petal walking down the aisle radiating with happiness. The wonderful words spoken about the couple. John Paul and his daughter sharing a dance that lit up the entire room. I could go on and on with moments like this, but that would make this blog post far too long.
I met Petal and John Paul in Laguna Beach, photographed their engagement session in NYC and documented their wedding day in Palm Springs. We've been on quite the journey together and I am beyond excited to share the final results.
Enjoy.

The last time I photographed a wedding in Colorado I was 21 years old and had essentially no clue what I was doing. Seven years later I was back on a plane to photograph an amazing couple in one of the most beautiful parts of Colorado. I was warned that afternoon rain storms were quite common and well rain it did. Lucky for us it's also common that these storms don't last long. Shortly after it began the sun was out and we were in the gondola heading up the mountain.
I've seen photos of the Beaver Creek Wedding Deck, but none of them did it justice. As soon as I came around the corner and got a glimpse of the view I was totally floored. Amy and Brandon could not have picked a more beautiful location to exchange their vows. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, they said "I do" and it was absolutely perfect.
We spent the next hour photographing this gorgeous couple. It seemed like everywhere I looked there was an epic location just begging to be used. Amy and Brandon looked like they were straight out of a bridal magazine making my job very easy. Insert a stunning couple into and equally stunning location and it's hard not to come away with something special.
Portraits finished, it was time to check out the reception room. Once again, I was blown away by the beauty of this wedding. Candles, candles and more candles. Romance, elegance, sophistication this room had it all. I have seen a lot of beautiful rooms and this was up there with the best of them. Heart warming speeches, endless laughter and an impressive dance floor completed this beautiful wedding day.
I may have gone a bit overboard with the number of images I posted this time, but I couldn't help myself.
Enjoy.

When I first asked Jessie and Omar what they wanted to do for their engagement session, Omar responded with "Dude, I just wanna get some food". Done. We took a couple detours on our way, but eat we did. Tacos and tamales on Olvera Street, a quick beer at Angel City Brewing Company and more tacos at Guisados. Side note, if you haven't been to Guisados, GO. GO NOW. RIGHT NOW.
One of our detours was to PRINTGONZALEZ to visit Omar's friend Daniel who is making their wedding invitations. These are not just any old wedding invitations though, these things are works of Letterpress art. I can't wait to see the final product.
An epic couple, Downtown L.A. and some even more epic tacos. Let's just call this one a dream shoot.
Enjoy.
We had a pretty ambitious plan for the day, but I knew it would be worth it. We met at their place in Brooklyn and quickly set out for Central Park for some incredible light and greenery. We had to share our trail with a wild bunch of miniature scavenger hunters, but we made it work and the photos could not have been more beautiful.
An Uber later we found ourselves back in Brooklyn. Ready for a breather we knocked out a couple slices of pizza and set out to explore Dumbo. We battled the wind for a while and then decided to head back to their place to freshen up. The day ended on a pier with a perfect view of the Statue of Liberty. The sunset was gorgeous, I was exhausted and we were all hungry. With a belly full of awesome BBQ I slept for a few hours and then it was off the airport to catch the first flight out.
To say this trip was a whirlwind would be a serious understatement, but it was worth every bit of exhaustion. Petal and John were so much fun to work with and I can't wait for the Palm Springs wedding next month.
Enjoy.
Lisa and Gabi chose one of my favorite venues in all of Palm Springs. The O'Donnell House is one of the many hidden gems of Palm Springs that most locals don't even know exists. The ceremony was small and intimate with only their closest friends and family. Listening to people talk about the couple it was very clear how much Lisa and Gabi mean to them. Start to finish this wedding was stunning and so much fun to photograph. The only way to end this wedding would have been an epic afterparty and that's exactly what they did.
Enjoy.

In the midst of it all, I often try to pause and reflect on life’s surreal moments - dancing in the rain on a summer day, the quiet calm that follows diving out of a plane, watching ocean waves crash as the sun rises, cuddling your puppy on a Sunday morning, the raw emotion of walking down the aisle to the one you love - just to name a few. I try not to compare, but rather enjoy each moment for what it is. Sometimes I know when one is coming and other times I don’t realize it until it has passed. On Saturday, July 18, I knew one was coming…
After 10 months of pregnancy and 11.5 hours of labor and delivery, Brian and I were given one of the most beautiful and surreal moments of our lives - we met our daughter, Indie Ryan, for the very first time. She came on a rainy afternoon in July - 3:28 p.m. When the nurse placed her skin-to-skin on my chest, Brian and I looked at each other with tears and joy in our eyes.
The hospital room was busy with nurses and the doctor coming in and out to perform their post-birth tasks, but all I could see was the most beautiful tiny human and my incredibly loving, supportive husband.
Nothing in this world could have prepared Brian and I for the overwhelming love and joy we felt in that moment and every moment with Indie since then. I didn’t understand what people meant when they said a baby would change our lives forever. I thought they meant we would be exhausted from not sleeping or we wouldn’t be able to do things we once did very easily. I realize though, it wasn’t about that at all - it changes your understanding of life itself. The past two weeks, I have found myself perfectly content just staring at her beautiful eyes, rosy cheeks, tiny hands and feet all day without another care. I love every moment.
One day, we hope to show her the world and she will experience her own surreal moments… until then, Brian and I (Rooney too) will enjoy the one we are in.
In lieu of a white wedding gown, the stunning bride wore a vintage black and gold floor-length dress with a high neckline. Her ensemble was elevated by the beautiful floral crown and wristlet created for the romantic affair. For the groom, we wanted a modern take on a classic look. He wore a sleek, tailored suit with a classic bowtie, checkered shirt and double monk strap shoes.
When creating the floral pieces, we were inspired by the untamed beauty of the desert landscape. The bride’s bouquet and sweetheart table centerpiece had a wild, organic feel with lots of texture and rich colors. They enhanced the romantic and modern bohemian flare of the occasion effortlessly.

]]>Wind, a little rain and more wind. It seems like every time I'm in Palm Springs to shoot a wedding there is some interesting weather waiting for me. On the upside the weddings always turn out beautifully and Samantha and Doug's was no exception. The beauty of this wedding went beyond the stunning florals and details, as it was truly in every aspect of the celebration. The energy surrounding this couple was incredible. From the first day we met I could tell Samantha and Doug are a couple that enjoys life and their wedding guests seemed to be on the same page. I'm very lucky to have the privilege of photographing amazing weddings like this one. Thank you to Samantha and Doug for allowing me to be a part of their wedding day.
Enjoy.
Emilie grew up visiting the Mission San Juan Capistrano and when we started discussing locations for their engagement shoot it was one of her first choices. She said she wanted a dramatic background and well this place certainly fulfills that request. We only had an hour to photograph in the mission and while that may sound like a lot I could have spent eight hours in there with this couple. Everywhere you look there is a gorgeous background just begging to be photographed.
Emilie and Ben are two incredibly genuine people with a beautiful love for one another. One of my favorite things to do when photographing a couple is to ask them to forget about the camera and just talk to each other, make each other laugh and have fun. It's usually during this time that I get some of my favorite photos of the session. These two did such a great job of forgetting about the camera that I had to wrangle them back in a few times. I love it when that happens!
I truly believe I have one of the best jobs ever. I get to hangout with amazing people in beautiful locations and document some of the most special times in their lives. Emilie and Ben will be my first wedding in 2016 and it can't come soon enough.
Enjoy.
I can't remember a time that I laughed so hard while shooting a wedding. Maggie and James were so much fun to work with that I didn't want their wedding day to end. From the start they told me they wanted their wedding day to be a party and they did not disappoint. There was such an incredible atmosphere throughout the day it was hard not to get caught up in it. Maggie and James had an incredible group of friends and family to share their wedding day with them and it was so much fun to document every moment.
Enjoy.

The new recipe has about 4 ounces of ginger and some lemon grass to balance out the flavor but we wanted it at the wedding for sentimental and goofy reasons), and a Black IPA which is James's favorite beer.

If there is one thing our pregnancy has taught me it is how quickly life passes us by. It seems like only yesterday Jess surprised me with hand made onsie with a camera on it. Now seven months later it feels like only a blink of an eye. These photographs will forever be a reminder of an incredible journey we had together. It was a trip to celebrate the transition from one phase of our lives to the next and it could not have been more perfect.
Those close to me know how much it means to me to be a father. It's something that I have wanted for as long as I can remember. Now that dream is coming true and it's something I am beyond grateful for. I was lucky to find an incredible woman that is kind, loving, adventurous, loyal, beautiful and incredibly supportive. There is a certain level of fear that comes with having a child. I have felt my share of that over these seven months, but those feelings are quickly laid to rest when I think of who I have by my side.
Life goes by so fast... It's something you hear so many people say and it's one hundred percent true. Life gets busy and we forget to take the time to really live in a moment. Part of this trip was about just that. Taking some time to truly enjoy one another's company before our baby girl arrives. I have made a promise to myself that I will do the same with Indie. I want to soak up every moment I can with her because I understand how quickly those moments will pass.
Some day I will have the pleasure of showing these photographs to Indie and that will bring the most incredible happiness to my heart.
Enjoy.
Sunrises and sunsets.

Avid travelers, Brian and I jetted off on a new venture in late March during my second trimester of pregnancy. Some call this a Babymoon, a trendy new word for a vacation before baby comes, but Brian doesn’t like to call it that. Babymoon or not, we both wanted to get away and spend some quality time together exploring a different part of the world before our little bundle of joy arrives in July. Not that we plan to slow down our future travel plans when little Indie arrives, but it was a good excuse to take a vacation in March.
Costa Rica seemed to be the perfect spot for the occasion. While this was Brian’s first time in Costa Rica, it was my second visit to the beautiful and laidback country. Upon arrival in San Jose, we rented a mini 4WD vehicle and headed west to Puntarenas where we caught a ferry to the Nicoya Peninsula. After a long and frustrating jaunt, we finally made it to the relaxing beach village of Montezuma. We spent several beautiful days exploring the beaches, hiking waterfall trails and swimming in tide pools. Days later, we took the gnarly, 4-wheel-drive-required back road to the popular surf town, Mal País. After several more days of surf, sand and beautiful sunrises and sunsets, we ventured on the 7-hour trek to La Fortuna. There we hiked around the surreal Volcano Arenal, drank coffee and enjoyed the lake views. All in all, we had an amazing adventure together. Even 6 months into our pregnancy, we could not sit still and “relax” for very long, so we were constantly exploring all that Costa Rica has to offer! Of course we took naps after sunrise photo sessions, had late breakfasts and hung out in hammocks – so maybe we did get a little R&R. We cannot wait to return one day and continue our exploration – maybe with Indie next time!
Here are some of the random highlights and observations from our trip:
Gallo Pinto – the most amazing typical Tico breakfast dish
Costa Rican coffee – this is where I fell in love with coffee 6 years ago – it tastes just as amazing today as it did then
Maps, Route Numbers, Street Names & Directions – they don’t exist in Costa Rica – locals use landmarks when giving directions and you will probably have to make a few U-turns along the way (we did)!
Fruit – Mangos, Watermelon, Pineapple, Melon – all in abundance and delicious
Dirt Roads – Super gnarly and definitely require 4WD
Hammocks – a relaxation must have!
Costa Rican Beaches – Incredibly beautiful and picturesque, not to mention wonderfully warm ocean water = makes us turn into fish!
Dogs & Cats – some roam, and some have collars – all are adorable and I wanted to take them with me
Playa de los Artistas, Montezuma – the most romantic and delectable dinner of our trip – we highly recommend this restaurant
The Bakery in Mal País – some of the best meals of our trip, including delicious fruit smoothies
The German Bakery – If you drive to Arenal, you will see 100 or more signs for this place and they will lure you in
San Jose – hate it!
Pura Vida – Pure Life!!
An adventure with the one you love – invaluable experience
Enjoy.

Cold, windy and the threat of rain, probably not what this Seattle couple had in mind when they decided to get married at their home in Palm Springs. Despite the unlikely weather Rodrigo and Robert's wedding was the perfect celebration of their love for one another. From start to finish this wedding was top notch. The immaculately dressed grooms were an absolute pleasure to photograph. The intimate, standing room only ceremony was beautiful and touching. The dinner and hors d'oeuvres were straight out of a five star restaurant. Rodrigo and Robert put a lot of thought and time into planning their wedding and it showed in every detail.
In our first meeting Rodrigo told me he wanted their wedding to be a party and party they did! I don't think I've seen a more lively dance floor and when the mariachi band arrived things kicked up a couple more notches. The couple must have known their guests would work up an appetite on the dance floor because they capped the night with a taco truck. I left before the party ended, but I'm sure it continued well into the night.
I know I say it all the time, but it truly was an honor to be a part of this wedding.

I'm always fascinated by the journey life takes us on, particularly how two individuals come to meet and fall in love. Lisa and Gabi's story is one of the most intriguing I have come to know in quite some time. Lisa was born in Tokyo and raised in Indiana. Gabby was born in Israel and then moved with his family to Northern California. The two found each other in New York City while Gabi was getting his masters at Columbia. I'm a believer in fate and it's stories like this that solidify my belief.
I first met this beautiful couple in August. They flew into Palm Springs from San Francisco to meet potential vendors and I was lucky enough to be one of them. I had a terrible cold and left the meeting feeling less than confident about the impression I had made. Fortunately, they chose to book me and I could not be more excited to photograph their wedding next year.
Lisa and Gabi decided they wanted to have their engagement session in Palm Springs. On the day of the shoot we had high winds and the threat of rain. We started our day at Alcazar Palm Springs and then moved into the hills above Palm Springs. Luckily we were able to find some shelter from the wind and the threat of rain turned into an incredible sky and perfect lighting. All in all it was an amazing engagement session filled with love and laughter.
Enjoy.
From time to time, my wife Jessica will photograph a wedding with me. I figured since she was a part of this day and a much better writer than myself that I would let her share some words about the wedding...
David and Jim undoubtedly have a genuine and deep love for one another. Even as an outsider, it is evident in the way David and Jim look at each other that they share a sincere understanding and respectful love. The incredibly heartfelt vows David and Jim expressed to one another set the romantic tone for the evening.
As the sun began to disappear behind the San Jacinto Mountains, the ceremony came to an end with the traditional first kiss and they were pronounced married. Following the recessional, family joyfully gathered around the grooms to congratulate them.
On this beautiful occasion, the grooms were looking quite dapper. The small details - cufflinks, and ties added the personal touches that made their ensembles exquisite.
Standing next to the grooms in stunning tangerine, the wedding party included the grooms’ children and siblings. The boutonnieres and small bouquets added to the perfect pop of color. Everyone was so joyous, especially David and Jim, who hold such strong love for their families. Watching them interact with their loved ones made the event even more exceptional. Jim beamed around his three children who all support him and David together. David's sister Suzanne lovingly officiated the ceremony. The entire family element of the day made it all the more touching.
The stunning Parker Palm Springs was the perfect backdrop as it is sentimental to David and Jim. The wedding florals and decor lent itself beautifully to the simple and eclectic elegance of the venue. The happy grooms seemed to soak in every detail and every moment of their special day.
David, Jim and their families were such a joy to photograph. We left their wedding feeling incredibly fortunate for having the opportunity to have met them and be a part of their special day. We wish them a lifetime of love, laughter and happiness.
Enjoy.

Brooke and Greg's Palm Springs wedding could not have been more perfect. The setting for their special day was The Sand Acre Estate. This 1933 Spanish Villa is rumored to have been frequented by Marilyn Monroe and immediately takes you back in time to a glamorous Palm Springs. This villa was the perfect fit for the stylish couple. Brooke's silk and lace dress was simple yet elegant. Greg was looking sharp as could be in his chambray suit and white shoes. The two of them together was absolute perfection.
Their intimate ceremony was heartwarming to say the least and included a one of a kind Chuppa that was beyond words. The vibrant florals added a playful pop of color. Framed by soft drapery and classic chandeliers, the open-air reception was the highlight of the evening. The breathtaking San Jacinto mountains and starry sky made the perfect backdrop for this desert-inspired wedding.
Even with all the stunning scenery it was their love and the small group of friends and family that really made the day special. I knew their wedding was going to special from our first meeting and I am so fortunate to have been able to capture it.
Enjoy.

I'm very excited to share this particular engagement session for a couple of reasons. One, I am completely in love with the photos and two, Amy and Brandon were the winners of the first ever Brian Evans Photography Wedding Giveaway. This shoot could not have been more amazing and I had so much fun photographing these two! It quickly became clear that the locations Amy chose were quite special to them so I asked her send over a quick write up about where we spent our day.
From Amy...
Although we live in Denver now, Los Angeles will always be near and dear to our hearts. When we first began dating in 2011, we were both living in Santa Monica, and loved to spend our weekends together exploring the gorgeous mountains and beaches of LA. Our engagement shoot was very special to us since we were able to return to two of our favorite spots where we have so many treasured memories together.
On many Sunday mornings when we wanted to be active, but also enjoy one another’s company, we would head to Temescal Canyon and get in a challenging hike, stopping along the trail to enjoy the views of the ocean, and the unexpected waterfall. After our hike we typically would browse through the local farmers market nearby to pick up fresh ingredients to make dinner later that evening. I still can’t think of a better day!
When we wanted to enjoy a relaxing afternoon together we would often pack a picnic, drive up the coast, and find one of the smaller, more private Malibu beaches. Dume Cove, beneath Point Dume was one of the gems we had the luck of finding after walking along Zuma Beach, up a hilly beach trail and down a long narrow staircase to a nearly private rocky beach framed by dramatic cliffs.
We had an amazing time returning to these two spots and couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our engagement than by reliving some of our most cherished moments from early in our relationship.
There was so much beauty in the simplicity of Katie and Taylor's wedding. Their small beach wedding was filled with so much love and laughter. They were surrounded by their closest loved ones making the day incredibly intimate. I love it when the officiant knows the couple on a personal level and having Taylor's dad fill the role could not have been more perfect. Katie and Taylor were so much fun to photograph. Katie being an adventurous bride didn't even flinch when we asked her to climb the rocky path to the stunning location we picked out. Once these two were in place it was pure magic. The light, the location, the couple, everything was perfect. Here are a few of my favorite portraits. Enjoy.

Brooke and Greg will be getting married in Palm Springs this October and I can't wait. Photographing this beautiful couple in one of my favorite places during one of my favorite months is going to be pure perfection. Enjoy.
Experiencing the African wildlife first hand was incredibly surreal. It changed my life. Brian and I could not be more grateful for the amazing experience. It seems almost cliche to say, but it truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Not to say we did not immediately add “African Safari” back on the bucket list, but it was once in a lifetime in the sense that we will never experience Africa the same way twice. Many fellow travelers on the trip that had been on a prior safari expressed this sentiment as well.
Enjoy some of our most memorable safari stories…
While Brian was taking memorable photos, I was observing, journaling and marking my animal checklist. Throughout the week we saw 38 animal species and over 50 bird species. At first I used the checklist to help remember what we saw, but soon it became a challenge to spot rare species. Though the rare animals were exciting to see, some of our favorites were more common.
Most people who know me know that I love elephants and they are one of my favorite animals. Near the end of the second day, we saw a very large heard of elephants from afar. We made our way down to a dry river bed to find a family of 12 elephants. We watched them for over half hour as they used their powerful trunks to pull branches and leaves from trees and thick grass from the ground. As they continued to eat, they moved closer and closer to our jeep. I could have sat and watched them for hours – they are such gentle and beautiful animals. The 3-month-old baby was most fun to watch as he clumsily followed his mom. As the sun began to set and the elephants moved on, we made our way back up to the main dirt path to discover tons of elephants moving across the road to green land. It was estimated by our guide to be a heard of 250 elephants. It was such an awe-inspiring experience.
Of course our encounters with lions were breathtaking as well. In the Ngorongoro Crater we were so fortunate to see a large pride of lions (4 males, 3 females and 5 cubs) with a recent kill. At one point we followed a lioness and her cub to a watering hole, where the mischievous cub played as mom hydrated. Later we returned to the kill where the males were showing whose territory it was by rubbing and peeing on the jeeps. They were so close I literally could have pet one (though I wouldn’t be writing this if I was stupid enough to do that). Needless to say lions are incredibly powerful, which I found to be so beautiful. They were certainly another animal I could have sat and watched for hours, even as they slept.
Lions sleep almost all day and are much more active at night. So as we slept at night in our tents, we could hear many of the animals nearby. In fact many heard lions roar, hyenas and zebras in the dead of night all around our camp.
Before the sun rose each day, we were up and in our jeeps ready to catch a glimpse of wildlife. A few of the rare and fortunate sightings were of a black rhino and baby, cheetah, kudu, spotted eagle owl and a reed buck.
Though one of the most common, the wildebeest were entertaining to watch as they followed each other in a straight line wherever they went. Their leaders were the zebra, which were much more vibrant and stunning in person than I ever imagined. The impala, and Thompson gazelles were fun to watch as they pranced around – in fact, the dozen different antelope we spotted were all unique and interesting to watch move about.
Though I could tell story after story about each animal and the experience seeing them, enjoy another view through Brian’s lens…

Our trip to Johannesburg was somewhat of a whirlwind, but it was well worth the few days we were able to spend there. Our first full day in Joburg was spent with four beautiful South African women who took us to a school. The humble school was the learning hub for many children in the surrounding shanty town. Though most of them were away due to school holiday, there were a few classrooms filled with kids ages 2-7. As we entered the classroom, the kids swarmed around us hugging our legs and putting there thumbs out as a gesture of “hello.” It was so touching to see their smiling faces as they played in the small yard just beyond the classroom. We were able to learn more about the school as we were given the tour. Three of the four women who guided us were from another branch of the organization called Orange Farm – where their goal is to empower women who are mothers of children with disabilities, and to create schools where the children can learn in a safe and welcoming environment. Each of the women told us their stories about the struggles they face due to a lack of education on disabilities, abandonment from the child’s father, and the fight to provide health care and education to their children. We were so thankful for them for sharing their touching and inspiring stories with us. Our experience with them is certainly one we will never forget.
We also had an opportunity to walk around the shanty town as we were escorted by the women and two high school boys. They said the shanty town had significantly improved as we would not have been able to walk around 10 years ago. Though we did not feel unsafe, we did feel like we stuck out quite obviously and it was a strange experience. In all, it was humbling to see so many smiling faces in the midst of such severe poverty in the shanty towns.
Tanzania
From the moment we stepped foot off the plane, we were warmly embraced by the people of Tanzania. Our safari guides were the first to welcome us to their beautiful country. From South Africa we traveled to Kenya and then to our safari starting point, the infamous Kilimanjaro, Tanzania.
Though we spent most of our safari interacting with animals in the bush, the people we met along the way made impactful impressions on us. Throughout the safari we switched jeeps so we could meet different guides – all which were very knowledgeable and friendly. It was interesting to learn about them, their families and perspective on life in Tanzania. Through them we not only learned about the animals we were seeing, but about the culture of the people and the many tribes. In Tanzania the official language is Swahili and English, but each tribe has their own language.
We were fortunate to meet people of the Maasai tribe. We went to one of their villages near the Ngorongoro Crater. They are nomadic people who raise cattle and farm the land. We were welcomed to enter one of their huts made of cow dung, straw and wood where families share a very small space. The also welcomed us in a traditional dance, showed us the beautiful beadwork they do for a living and showed us how they live.
The Manyara Ranch School was another opportunity we had to meet some incredible people. A large group of children sang the Tanzania national anthem to us when we first arrived. It was such an amazing introduction.
On the road from one national park to the next we saw many smiling faces and children excitedly waving to us as we drove past. It was amazing to get a glimpse into their culture and their world – and it is something we appreciate and will always remember about our travels.
I hope you enjoy the view through Brian’s camera lens…

Brian and I have been so fortunate in life especially when it comes to travel, which is one of our greatest passions. This last month, my parents generously took us on an African Safari, which turned out to be one of the most amazing trips of our lives.
Since Africa has been on my bucket list for some time, I had certain expectations of what it would look like as I’m sure all of us did. Somehow it exceeded all of those expectations.
We visited three locations in Tanzania: Tarangire National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park. It was incredible how beautiful and vastly different the landscape was even within the same national park let alone from one side of the country to the other. The sunrises and sunsets were always spectacular especially with Acacia trees, rivers or rocky terrain in the forefront.
It amazed us how the animals adapted and blended in with the earth, and how everything seemed to fit so perfectly. We really enjoyed soaking in every bit of Tanzania, from the red clay dirt to the sun in the sky – so much so that we cannot wait to return again one day. Enjoy.

I first me Denise and Bryan in Palm Springs at my favorite coffee shop, Koffi. We had a wonderful meeting and I immediately fell in love with their energy. Denise is from Chicago and Bryan is from Stockton, but two years ago they found each other in Southern California. Listening to them tell their story I couldn't help but be inspired by the love they have for each other.
Our session took us to Crystal Cove, an area I have not explored much in the past. We wandered along the beach a little ways before stumbling upon a beautiful stretch of rocky coastline. It was a cloudy day and it turned out to be a perfect background for this cozy love filled engagement session. These two were so much fun to work with and I am beyond excited for their Palm Springs wedding next year.
Enjoy.
Family and friends joyfully gathered to celebrate near the inn’s old stone house. Inside was a touching arrangement of old black and white wedding photos from both sides of the family. Outside, the table centerpieces were simple yet elegant. The sweetheart table adorned with Mr. and Mrs. signs was framed perfectly by the stone house, while string lights set the mood for the entire reception.
As the sun set it was time to introduce the newlyweds and begin the festivities. The evening began with the couple’s first dance. Halfway through, the dance turned from romantic to fast and fun-loving as the song changed and the bridal party jumped in. That wasn’t the only surprise! Sentimental words were spoken by many, followed by the final speech rapped to Eminem by a bubbly bridesmaid. For the rest of the night, friends and family were enjoying themselves on the dance floor, posing in the photo booth, and eating delectable cupcakes.
I could not be happier for my friends Jeromy and Ariana. I wish them both a lifetime of love and laughter. Enjoy.

Growing up in the Coachella Valley, I have fallen in love with the light and warmth of the desert time and again. It seemed only natural to have Evans Wedding Photo’s first stylized shoot in the beautiful desert I have called home for most of my life. To some, the desert may not be traditionally beautiful; however, for this stylized shoot, I undoubtedly wanted to showcase the unique beauty and essence of the desert and its many intricacies.
When most people think of the desert, they surely envision cacti. The unique and charismatic venue, Moorten’s Botanical Gardens, is unique for its Cactarium - the first in the world. The venue naturally lent itself to the wildly-organic desert inspiration I was looking for.
Established in 1938 in beautiful Palm Springs, California, Moorten’s private arboretum boasts 3,000 examples of desert cacti and other desert plant life. The Mediterranean-style home on property, befittingly named Cactus Castle, is in the Palm Grove Oasis, and is often described as a haven of tranquility. This beautiful botanical garden, located on the famous Palm Canyon Drive, possesses the appeal and charm of old Palm Springs.
For the final shots of the day, we moved to Eagle Rock Canyon near dusk. Nothing captures desert beauty more than awe-inspiring openness of land framed by the stunning San Jacinto mountains.
The desert was merely the background for the real inspiration, love. The beautiful, happily-engaged couple, Josh and Jaleesa, were such a joy to shoot. The love they have for one another is undeniably sweet. Josh and Jaleesa are a truly genuine couple - thank you to them for making this stylized shoot possible.
A huge THANK YOU to the amazing vendors as well. I had no doubt Cachet Fiore would create a beautiful bouquet, as I am always amazed at their talent. I asked for a bouquet to match the wildness and textures of the venue, and Cachet Fiore outdid themselves once again. We chose a soft, ethereal gown from Love and Lace Bridal, complimented by a copper, bohemian-inspired headpiece for her. The stunning, rose gold sequined backless Truvelle gown featured a chiffon skirt, which caught the movement and the warm desert wind perfectly. For him, nothing could compare to a modern, slim black suit.
Enjoy.

Rain, wind and more rain and then more wind. That was mother nature's plan for Violet and Sergio's wedding day. Plans got changed, locations moved, but in the end it was one of the most beautiful displays of love I have had the pleasure of witnessing.
I have known Violet since high school and when she and Sergio asked me to be a part of their wedding day I was beyond honored. After our meeting I could tell they were a special couple. Sergio is a soft spoken guy with an enormous heart. Violet is full of energy and lights up a room with her smile. When you add in their two adorable boys you have a beautiful family full of love. Enjoy.
Jeromy and I go back to elementary school. Living next-door to each other we were basically inseparable as kids. He eventually moved a couple cities away and over the years life took us in different directions. It wasn't until my own wedding that we reconnected and it was as if no time had passed at all. I have since had the pleasure of getting to know his fiancé Ariana and could not be more honored to be photographing their wedding in a couple of months.
The three of us spent a couple hours exploring one of my favorite places in the Coachella Valley and captured some beautiful moments along the way. Enjoy.
Allow me to introduce you to The Fitzpatricks. That beautiful woman is my sister Kristen, the handsome bearded man is her husband Tom and that bump under Kristen's dress is Baby Fitz. I can't begin to tell you all how special this shoot was to me. Kristen and Tom are an amazing couple and such a huge part of my life. Aside from some bickering as children Kristen and I have always been very close. She has always looked out for me and helped me navigate life. She has lived in Northern California for a number of years now and despite the distance we continue to grow closer. Tom first came into the picture 10 years ago. From the very beginning he was part of our family and I considered him a brother long before their wedding. He has always been their to offer advice or simply make me laugh till my face hurts.
I was beyond honored to capture this incredible moment in their lives. I know they are going to be amazing parents. This shoot was made extra special by the fact that it took place on the same day as my parent's 34th wedding anniversary. The day could not have been any more perfect and I am in love with these photos. Enjoy.
A beautiful couple in an equally beautiful location. What more can a photographer ask for? Grace and Hank's wedding in O'ahu was an amazing display of their love from start to finish. These two were so much fun to work with and up for anything. When I say anything that includes waking up for sunrise the day after the wedding for a day after session. It was incredible to be a part of their special day and I am beyond in love with these photos. Enjoy.
Geanina and Marius were an incredible couple to photograph. They had a genuine love that shined from the moment they saw each other. It was easy to tell that love was shared by their friends and family as well. The entire day was filled with amazing moments, but one of my favorites was the surprise video Geanina had made for Marius. His entire family back in Romania offering their prayers and blessings. It was a truly special day.
On December 8, 2013, I had the distinct pleasure of capturing Curtis and Paul's intimate wedding. When I first received the call to photograph their Big Day, I jumped at the opportunity. The two of them are extremely genuine people, and it was a pleasure meeting them. Curtis and Paul's wedding took place at the infamous Spencer's in Palm Springs, CA set against the mountain overlooking the scenic Coachella Valley.
Their unique love story began 10 years ago when they met square dancing - a story that was reminisced about throughout the evening. The love and companionship they share was evident to myself along with their friends and family. The simple, yet elegant affair was highlighted by a friends' artwork depicting the couple undersea. The magical atmosphere, cozy fire and dancing seemed to be enjoyed by all as the inspiring couple celebrated their love.
Congratulations Curtis and Paul!

]]>I had the pleasure of being a part of many amazing weddings this year, but Kallie and Eric's was by far one of my favorites. So much thought and detail was put into this wedding. The venue could't have been more amazing, though I could have done without the bird sized mosquitos. At the ceremony the love these two have for each other shined. This wedding was the perfect example of what a wedding is all about. Friends and family gathering to celebrate the love of two people. It could not have been done more beautifully and I am so happy to have been a part of it. Enjoy.
It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of this beautiful military wedding. Jenna and Ben were incredible to work with and their love could not have been more apparent. Listening to their friends and family talk about them it was clear they were two very special individuals. Here are some of my favorites from the day. Enjoy.
I have to start by saying that Evan and Kristin White are good friends of my wife, Jessica, and I. In fact, Jessica’s cousin was the best man. So it is safe to say, based on the couple and group of friends, I knew it was going to be an incredible wedding... and it was.
Whether you have had the opportunity, like myself, to enjoy their friendship over the years, or you have never met them at all, it is apparent to everyone that they are made for one another. Their love for each other is the kind others aspire to have. Evan is a beautiful and complex soul - on the one hand he is into physical fitness and body building, whereas his sensitive side lends itself to opera singing, stage acting and meditative massage therapy. His beautiful bride, Kristin, is incredibly thoughtful and nurturing. To express how easy going Kristin is, the best mens’ speeches expressed scenes where Evan would be wandering about the house singing Phantom of the Opera at the top of his lungs, while Kristin would sit quietly reading a book. Their relationship is evidently strong and will be everlasting. I hope I am able to witness the love they share for years to come.
Their friends and family seemed to share in my sentiment. The Temecula Creek wedding was quaint, creative and exuded a simple and deliberate beauty. Evan and Kristin’s large wedding party stood by their side as the couple expressed their vows and exchanged rings. But before the ceremony was over, the guests enjoyed opera and a serenade by the groom himself. As the evening unfolded, their were tears of joy, laughter and a lot of love. The warm fall White wedding ended with the couple surrounded by their loved ones dancing under the stars.

Alynna and Tudor had one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever seen. From the amazing couple to the venue to the love displayed throughout the day. This wedding was an amazing day and it was incredible to be a part of it.
What do you do when you are asked to photograph a pair of photographers you really admire? First you have a small panic attack. Once you move past panic, you feel a sense of honor, which cannot be described. In this case the photographers, Sammy and Natalia Cosa, happen to be the amazing husband and wife team who captured our wedding day! Since our wedding, Sammy has taken me under his wing and become a mentor and great friend. Working with him has been awesome... he and his family are truly inspirational.
Sammy and Natalia have a beautiful daughter named Saylah, with a second daughter, Audrey, on the way. They approached me about doing a family portrait session with a bit of a twist. They wanted the session to be a “day in the life” of their growing family. To truly represent their family, they also wanted it centered on their favorite part of the day... breakfast.
The Cosas do breakfast right! Natalia is a barista master and makes one of the best lattes I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. Sammy makes eggs like nobody’s business, and Saylah is a pancake mixing champ. The life of a photographer can be a bit hectic at times, but it’s great to see a family take the time to enjoy each other’s company around the kitchen table.
The rest of the morning was spent following this beautiful family around their home capturing the fun and love they share. Saylah has one of those smiles and laughs that lights up a room, which made my job easy and entertaining. They will soon welcome their new addition into this world and I am beyond happy for them. Photographing this family was an amazing way to spend the morning and I thank them very much for the opportunity.
Enjoy.
My journey to Robyn and Brandon’s wedding began in 2007 when I first met Robyn’s father, Frank. As a young photographer, I was invited by Frank to photograph a vintage trailer park he and his family owned in Pinecrest, California. Little did I know then I would be photographing his daughter’s wedding in that very location years later.
Sometimes when you meet a couple you know right away they are something special, which is how I felt during our initial meeting held in their home. Brandon took a break from brewing beer and the three of us sat in the middle of their amazing garden to discuss their upcoming wedding. Being familiar with the location and seeing the evidence of their DIY spirit, I knew I was in for an amazing wedding.
The wedding day came and it did not disappoint. That DIY spirit I first saw in their home was everywhere on their wedding day. In addition to all the handmade details there was one aspect of this wedding that really blew me away - the beer! Brandon is all about his beer, which meant there was an amazing selection of beer. With seventeen different beers on tap, this wedding put most beer bars to shame. Like I said, it blew me away.
Even though the beer was a sure crowd pleaser, the celebration was all about the fun-loving couple tying the knot in a unique circular ceremony, which really created an intimate feel. The love these two have for one another is truly beautiful. Equally as beautiful was the love their families have for them. Everyone was incredibly happy to be celebrating this perfect-for-each-other couple, which was increasingly evident through the speeches and special moments witnessed throughout the celebration. Seeing these two celebrate their love with their family and friends was an amazing way to spend the day.
This is what Robyn had to say about her amazing wedding day...
The wedding was held at Pinecrest Vintage Retreat, which my parents have owned for the last 8 years. It specializes in vintage trailer camping. It was originally built in the 60s as a retreat for the employees of General Dynamics.
Our tables were named after some of our favorite beers/beer labels. For my bachelorette party, all of the ladies from my and Brandon's family (sisters, moms, future sister in-law, and cousin) got together and hand drew or traced them to be used for the wedding.
The flowers were done by Shelly Lynch, my coworker. I loved that she did the flowers because I knew I could trust her completely. I only gave her a few pictures of what style I liked and she came up with everything. It was one detail I was completely hands off with.
Brandon's cousin and his brother's girlfriend, along with the help of Shelly, took all of the decor I had purchased and created the reception space with little direction from me. The mason jars were hung by Brandon, Wilson and my godfather Jon. I did not want to deal with a guest book, but Brandon's sister decided to take that on and put together the guest book wall, with some of our pictures from the past 9 years.
The food was from Jeremy's On The Hill, who specializes in farm to table cuisine. The chef went to high school with both Brandon and I.
The sax player during the ceremony was my cousin Pete. And the preacher was my Uncle Bruce, who married my parents 32 years ago on July 4th. He had us say the same vows that my parents said.
The reception music was a band called Republic of Music from San Diego.
Basically it was a do it yourself wedding that could not have been pulled off without all of the help from our family and friends.

The love Nicole and Donnie have for one another is so evident in their playful nature. Oscar Wilde once said, "Life is too important to be taken seriously." This beautiful, light-hearted couple seemed to have figured that out long ago. From throwing their hands in the air at the excitement of being announced husband and wife, to literally smashing wedding cake in each others' faces (I mean they really took it to a new level), Nicole and Donnie showed their true fun-loving colors. Giggling at one another during the shoot, Nicole and Donnie made photographing them and their love fun and easy.
When it came to the reception, they really threw one BIG party! With beer signs and dirtbike cake toppers in the mix, this charming, rustic wedding also had an outrageous party vibe. If giving out beer koozies as wedding favors doesn't say "We love to party!" then I don't know what does.
Family and friends were overjoyed to support and celebrate this beautiful couple. Overall, it was the deliberate simplicity of Nicole and Donnie's celebration that allowed the love for one another to shine through. I wish them a lifetime of love and laughter together.

Markie and Noah are the type of couple you hope for as a wedding photographer. They are fun, energetic and full of love for eachother. From the moment Noah saw Markie walking down the aisle he couldn't take his eyes off her. During our shoot I would have to ask Noah multiple times to look at the camera and not Markie. I loved it! There is nothing like capturing true love between two people and these two had it.
The wedding day could not have been any more perfect and I am so lucky to have been a part of it. Enjoy.
